Google Chrome to Get Native Voice, Video Chat

Google Chrome will soon take voice and video chat functionality built right in, removing the need for thirdly-party plugins and downloads, according to comments on a Google developer forum. The move will allow any 3rd-party developer to create a real-time communications application for the browser through with a set of JavaScript APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) as well as HTML 5.

The new functionality is based on WebRTC, a communications engineering science Google acquired in 2020 when it purchased Global Information processing Solutions. Google had already announced that WebRTC would become an open source project supported by Google, Mozilla and Opera. Google hopes to see WebRTC adoptive as a Web criterional, potentially fashioning it a universal platform for Web-founded period of time communications.

Henrik Andreasson, a Google software engineer settled in Sweden, opening mentioned Chrome's new capabilities in a little post on the company's Chromium developer forum. "Our goal is to enable Chrome with Veridical-Time Communications (RTC) capabilities," Andreasson said.
